Macintosh alphabets

 

Certain languages are grouped into alphabets. Some languages are in more than one alphabet (for instance English is in almost every alphabet) so to indicate which alphabet is considered primary for a given language, it is printed in bold.

Standard

These are Unicode fonts suitable only for Mac OS X.

Cyrillic alphabets  
Cyrillic (Slavonic)

Bulgarian, Belarusian, English, Macedonian, Moldavian, Russian, Serbian and Ukrainian.
For Operating Systems earlier than OS 9 this alphabet was not suitable for Ukrainian language and Ukrainian alphabet should have been used instead, but since the Cyrillic alphabet have been updated to incorporate all Ukrainian letters this is no longer of any importance.

Cyrillic Extended

Abazin, Avar, Azerbaijani (Cyrillic), Bashkir, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Buryat, Chechen, Chuvash, English, Evenki, Kabardian, Kalmyk, Kazakh, Kirgiz, Komi, Macedonian, Mari, Moldavian (Cyrillic), Mordvin, Nenets, Ossetian, Ostyak, Russian, Serbian, Tadzhik, Tatar, Turkmen, Udmurt, Ukrainian, Uzbek and Yakut.

These are Unicode fonts suitable only for Mac OS X.

Greek alphabets  
Greek (Modern)

English, German and modern Greek.

Greek (Classical)

Modern Greek and ancient Greek.

These fonts are suitable for Mac OS 9 or earlier, for Mac OS X Greek Unicode should be used.

Greek Unicode

English, German, modern Greek and ancient Greek.

These are Unicode fonts suitable only for Mac OS X.
For earlier Mac OS Greek Ancient should be used.
