Transitional style was formed in the late 17th century as an "improved style". Only later was it named "transitional" (as a bridge between Old Style and Modern).
Transitional style shares some characteristics of Venetian Old Style, yet it features stronger stroke contrast, curves and round letters with vertical stress, slightly rounded serifs.
