Symbolic fonts group together all sorts of fonts that do not have (usually) recognised Latin or non-Latin charaters.
Of course, it is not clear why fonts with letters made of dots (Braille language) should be thought as symbolic, whereas fonts made of shapes such as A or B should be thought not to be symbolic...
